Clamping objects to the workbench is easier if the clamp screw doesn't overhang the work.

I cut cookies with a hole saw and then cut two moon shaped pieces out of each to create a 3/4 inch height difference and glued to straight piece.  The radiused contact points allow height differences to be accomodated gracefully.
