First Table Ever Made

This is the second piece of furniture I've ever built. The first I fully desgin on my own. The table is made of solid maple with the exception of the table top which is maple plywood edged with about 3 inches of solid maple (I don't have the tools to properly joint solid wood to glue up a panel). I was somewhat inspired by the Mission style of furniture and so I hope it's reflected a bit in the end product. The reason I didn't use oak was that the legs were made using some old skid wood which I managed to salvage using my friends jointer/planer. In the end, I dyed the maple and finshed with numerous coats of shellac.

I didn't consider cutting the depth for several reasons. The biggest being that I wanted to store alot of electronics (ie: PS3, Nintendo Wii, router, modem...) so that they're out of sight. Secondly, my 1 year old son loves walking around trying to touch everything. With a table this deep, I am able to set the TV back far enough to prevent him from touching the screen and leaving marks.
Cheers
