Shibumi Table

Shibumi Table ("shibumi" is Japanese for "elegant simplicity") is also known as a "compound-mitred trestle table". I designed it to display my on-going interest in form defined by structure, materiality, and process. The understructure of ebonized mahogany creates a visual tension or visual anomaly. This contrast in perception by is accomplished by using elements and joinery that represents the opposite of what is visually perceived. The table is made of California Black Walnut with marble wedges to secure the tusk tenons of the trestle bar.
