We moved to our new house in June 2009. I began construction of my new shop in July and finiished in November 2009. It measures 28 x 40 feet. I wanted space that would allow good organization of machines and also enough room for contruction of larger pieces of furniture. I also wanted lots of natural light and a high ceiling height. I installed hydronic in-floor heating which is powered by a tankless water heater. There is a second floor which will be used in the future as office and showroom space.

dave100 writes: Note to Geppetto - hahaha, thanks for the tips. I just got the shop finished and I had to start on some commissions that were falling behind. There are plans n the works to fill the walls in the near future. Right now I'm working on the honey-do list.

dave100 writes: Thanks TimR. The heating has worked out very well this winter. It was our first and we really didn't know what to expect other than it would be cold and there would be lots of snow. The heater is powered by propane and I haven't got the exact number yet as to cost but I am pleased with the performance. The temperature in the shop is constant( I keep it around 62F and it's very comfortable with no cold spots). The second floor heats well too just through convection but I have roughed in for two single line rad heaters. I will have to add a mixing valve to regulate the water temp. One thing for anyone thinking about using a tankless heater - The companies don't recommend it because of codes but between the lines they say they will work. Just do your due dilligence when lookng at different manufacturers.

geppetto425 writes: What a beautiful building! Lots of room, but for gosh sakes, put some posters or artwork on those walls! The inside looks BLAH and boring. Paint one wall a different color, make a really nice hanging tool cupboard. I'd go nuts in there, looks like the inside of a prison.
