Wood Science & Design is the latest DVD set from Hendrik Varju. From it you’ll learn about the structure of wood and about flatsawn, riftsawn and quartersawn wood cuts. Hendrik also covers wood movement, moisture content, and cross grain construction problems. Also included is a formula for wood movement and he provides detailed info on how to use it with data you can find in scientific tables. Through out the DVDs Hendrik uses sketches, calculations, wood samples and real projects to explain all the concepts.

As with Varju’s other DVDs, this set has been called “Private Woodworking Instruction in a Box” because it is like having him there in the shop with you. Hendrik covers all of the details that he would normally convey in person and this set could become a valuable resource that you refer back to time and again.

dave100 writes: I have attended several of Hendrik's day long seminars, one of which was Wood Science and Design. I've also got both the Table Saw and Jointer DVD's. The DVD sets cover exactly the same content that he covers during the seminars which makes them ideal for those who can't attend the seminar or as a reference tool for those wanting to recall. The information Hendrik provides during the Wood Science and Design seminar is so extensive that this DVD will be a valuable asset to anyone who includes it in their library.

Rundle writes: I have attended many of Hendrick's seminars at various Woodworking shows. He is an excellent teacher in person, well organised and extremely informative; and this in a 30-60 minute public seminar. This DVD would be a wonderful resource to have at hand with Hendrick's reputation for thouroughness and his attention to relevant detail.
All of Hendrick's DVD's are well worth the money. Having jsut started up a part-time business I only wish I had the resources availble to add them to my library.

I truly believe WOOD is nature's WONDER material but I want more of the right information and understanding of its many inherent properties and best applications.

With this DVD set I would hope to become better at incorporating good design and engineering principles to better optimize woods many strengths and minimize its few weaknesses.
