Walnut Box

This box was made from a length of black walnut firewood, which came from a huge old tree in my parents' backyard in Western Pennsylvania. It sustained some storm damage a few years back and as a result, gave up some incredibly gnarly, but beautiful, branches, a few of which I 'liberated' from the fire pile. The box was turned from equal parts burl-grained sapwood, and dark brown heart wood, then finished with several coats each of shellac, linseed oil and bees wax.
