Matt's Monster Workbench
comments (12) March 5th, 2010 in Reader's Gallery
Completed using Matt Kenney's plan from finewoodworking.com. The video workshop was a big help. Used reclaimed machime crate 4 by 4s and red oak 4/4 lumber rejects from furnature projects for the base (made several knot sandwitches). Used 8/4 common white oak for the top. The hardware cost more than the lumber. Picked this plan because it solves all my workbench complaints. Increased the height to 35 1/2" to match my existing bench. This bench is a very heavy and rock solid monster.

Thanks (and to everyone behind the scene) for the video and plans for the "Monster Workbench". I'm curious, how tall are relative to the bench height? I ask, as I'm 6'2" and often find conventional work benches, e.g., my kitchen counter top, the bench on which I learned sheet metal layout, et. al., to be too short for comfortable work. For the record, I like hand tools, but readily use power tools to remove waste quickly. Thoughts?
