Here is a version of the tool cabinet featured in a recent issue of Woodsmith. Mine is cherry. Finally a decent home for my handtools!

I made the mistake of not recording the species when I purchased it. All I know is that it is in the mahogany family. It machines very nicely -- but has somewhat of a "soapy" feel when freshly cut and coated my blade teeth with a fine oily residue. To my surprise, it sanded down nicely and looks terrific with a about 5 coats of tung oil varnish. As I thought about it, the natural lubrication in this wood made it perfect for the tambour door since it's destined to a lifetime of sliding in a groove.
