Side Table 1

These are my first real attempt at "Fine Woodworking" after setting up my shop over the last year and half. I now now have a reasonable setup. A Rigid granite top table saw , Rigid 12" thickness planer, Delta 6" jointer and a 12" Craftsman band saw and a Triton router.

They where meant to be completely maple, but when I start to ruff cut the 8/4 piece it turned out to be cherry. So the legs are cherry. One of the tops is actually curly maple and the other normal maple.

I did the mortise with the router and a jig from FWW an the tenons on the table saw with a jig from FWW. The corners on the shelves I cut out after much thought on the band saw.

The arches I did with a template and a pattern bit. First time I had done that, then I finished them with a spoke shave, also first time for that. The spokeshave still needs a good tune up.

I finished the wood with my hand plane not always as well as I had hopped so I did quite a bit of hand sanding.

The plan I did myself in Sketchup working off a picture I found on some furniture site.
