Bible Stand

This is a Bible stand I made for my family’s annual New Years Eve bingo party. It's a design that I had in my head for a long time and I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to build it. It's sort of a "sampler" of joinery techniques. There's through dovetails in the upper case, half blind dovetails in the drawers, mortise and tenons in the base and frame and panel for the lid.
The middle stile of the lid is pillowed so when the spine of a book is set on it, it helps keep the book opened. Opening the lid reveals storage for pens and paper and three drawers for miscellaneous items. The main drawer has a writing surface that slides back to reveal more pen and paper storage. It is made of cherry, curly maple, spalted maple, and plain maple. The finish is boiled linseed oil and wax.
