Unfinished crib.
I finished it with oil, wipe on poly, and finished with wax.

Unfinished crib.

This was my wood-working project.  I found a plan online that I liked, then made it fit what I wanted it to look like. (I love sketch-up!)  The wood is Red Balau.  It is a deck material, and EXTREMELY hard.  I cut everything out at my in-law's shop.  I drove the pieces 300 miles to my apartment, and assembled the crib in my spare room.  When it came to finishing it, I chose to just oil it and let the beauty of the wood shine through.  I then used the wipe on poly (Still in my spare room!) and finished it with some wax.  I built the base out of some 2 x 2's.  Overall, I am pleased with how it turned out.  I can see where I need to improve in the future, but it's a start!
