This dovetailed walnut box was a gift to celebrate a neighbor's second child and presented as her baby's keepsake box. Generally inspired by early English arts and crafts designs, the shape and feet of the box give it a slightly "medieval" presence. The case and tray handle are made of wood from a single tree; the case is constructed with grain-matched, hand-dovetailed joints using 3/8" stock, which lends an almost delicate touch to the overall design. The panel on the framed lid is from the same tree, yet has contrasting color and figure. The box is lined with mitered cherry panels; the tray is constructed of the same piece of cherry as the interior panels.  Oil finish.  10" W x 8" H x 7" D.
