The stretchers set down a little bit, creates a great little space/shadow line.
applied mouldings

A commission i completed a while back. Someone wanted bookcases and wanted somethign elegant and different. I decided to place the case on a walnut stand with little flares feet of walnut and stuck on little "horns" on the side of the case, which i shaped with hand planes. The case is just straight foreward shop-sawn maple veneer, doweled together.

please excuse the crummy pics.

OldShavings OldShavings writes: Takes some doing to come up with an unusual-but-functional bookcase. Add to that beauty of its own and a nod to a woodworking tradition. You've impressed me.

Those "horns" look more like an owl's tufts. It will sit there like a squat owl holding considerable wisdom on its shelves.
