This is the first time I tried my hand at laminating. The middle panel is laminated brazilian cherry and tiger maple. The panels are glued to a sub-straight and then framed with paduak. There are also paduak splines in the miters for strength
Another first for me, hand-cut dovetails. They are not with out error but turned out well.
The wood burning and inlay are 2 more things that I attempted for the first time on this piece. The quote is from my sister's wedding invitation. I decided to include this after it was glued up. So i had to burn it on a seperate piece of wood and then inlay it in the side panel.
I practiced the wood burning 8 times before I got one good enough.
This was my sister's wedding gift back in May. This is by far one of my favorite pieces of work. I attempted many things i have never done before on this piece. Before this trunk I have never hand-cut a dovetail, re-sawn and laminate pieces of wood (the top), inlay, and wood burn. I was very pleased with the end result. I gotta stop giving away my furniture
