A new kitchen backsplash created a desire to get the microwave off of the counter top, resulting in this self designed hutch.  It is solid mahogany and mahogany plywood with a rich red mahogany stain.  The lower cabinet houses racks for storing cutting boards and baking sheets.  The dovetailed drawer, with box of cypress, holds utensils and pot-holders.  The pull-out tray offers a work space for the microwave and has a contrasting maple laminate surface.  The flipper door hides the microwave when not in use.  The  wooden shelf and cabinet rear have slotted vents for cooling the microwave.  The upper shelves add a display case that is lighted by a hidden 3-way touch control.  All moldings and beading were made in the shop.

After warming up on shop cabinets, and under-cabinet pull-outs, this was my first real piece of furniture.  It was an aggressive first try, and the wife is quite pleased with its looks and functionality.
