Bad Moon Rising

I designed this box to have a secret compartment contained within the lid which is only 3/4'' thick.Soss hinges were used to lift the lid and also the center section which swings up.The lift mechanism is opposing super magnets, which are constantly in tension. There are two 1/8''brass rods on the handle that keep it in place and hold the panel in place.A slight pull outwards on the handle lets the panel lift up.The tray is pulled down and open with a piece of ribbon.Several jigs were made to route the recesses precisely, leaving barely enough room for the hinges.I did make up a prototype box and worked through all the setup on that.
The shaping is done free hand with an angle grinder and sanders.
The title was inspired by the knots and swirls in the myrtlewood.
