Take the Rascal Rodents Challenge. Try to find all the "problems" the mice caused by stealing my clamps while the glue was supposed to set.

There are 1,000 pieces of marquetry in the upper cabinet and 1,000 in the base. The style is Rococo, which is an asymetrical pattern. The mouldings are silver leafed.

Challenge Hint: study the cherib closely.

Here is a mouse proudly displaying one of my missing clamps.

Challenge Hint: There are over 4 "problems" on this side.

This side has more 3d pops.

Challenge Hint: The 3d clamp isn't a problem.

So that's where the clamps went.

Time to set more traps!

Imagine you are doing a complex glue up and you place your clamps in just the right spot for the perfect assembly. You post signs to leave everything alone so the glue can set. You come in the next morning and suprise! The clamps have gone missing and your veneers have curled creating all sorts of problems. Well, that's what happened to my piece called "Rascal Rodents". Mice stole all the clamps overnight.

This piece is part of an series called "Breakout", where 2 dimension trompe l'Oeil designs tranform into 3 dimensions as you move through the piece. We filmed the entire process from concept to completion. We will publish the documentary sometime next year.

I take this piece whenever I do juried art shows and post a big sign "Take the Rascal Rodents Challenge". People have 92 seconds to find all the "problems" caused by the Rascal Rodents. The current record, set by a couple of 10 year boys, is 42 seconds. How many problems can you find? (I will post the answer as a comment on November 1).
