Arts and Crafts Coffee Table - Two Flavours
comments (4) September 5th, 2009 in Reader's Gallery
Arts & Crafts coffee tables in two flavours: cherry and white oak. Both tables feature breadboard ends with five-facet tips and ebony plugs. The square holes in the top are echoed in the main stretcher below. In keeping with the philosophy behind the Arts & Crafts’ movement, each piece is built with 48 mortise and tenon joints, four of which are through tenons connecting the arched stretchers to the legs. The pyramid shape detail seen on the ebony plugs of the oak table is repeated its main stretcher. Finish for the cherry table is a wipe-on satin polyurethane over a tinted Danish oil. Finish for the white oak table is a wipe on satin polyurethane over an aniline dye and gel stain combination. Both tables are 18" high x 24" wide x 40" long.
Design or Plan used: My own plan inspired from Kevin Rodel's table featured in Fine Woodworking magazine no. 178
