Syzygy refers to the alignment of the planets, specifically the sun, moon and earth.  It occurs at the time of a full moon and a new moon.

The pen is made from Coastal Red Milkwood and dyed black veneers.  There are a total of 24 cuts and 8 separate glue ups required to build the pen blank.  The cuts are made with a scroll saw.

VisExp VisExp writes: Thanks for the comments. You are right about the background. It is a marble tile from the big box store with a piece of Plexiglas on top of it. I use a small dab of museum wax to stop the pen rolling around. Used fabric softener sheets help keep the dust down, they work good on your dust mask as well :)
