Cherry shell, top and trim. I'm happy with the way my hand-cut dovetails turned out.
Built a small tray out of Maple and Cherry. Since I don't have a thickness planer, I shaved it by hand with my Japanese plane.
After watching "National Treasure 2," my son wanted to know if I could put in a secret compartment that he could hide stuff in. I fit a "drawer" within the bottom trim that opens only from the back.

After 25 years of not doing any woodworking, I decided to learn some hand-cut joinery and maybe do a few projects. Here's my first box. It's a "Cherry Treasure Box" for my 9 year old son. Hand-cut dovetails, a "raised panel" top, and a secret drawer in the back.
