Dual measuring scales, angle index marks, sturdy clamps and a high-friction surface are among the features of Rocklers new tapering jig.
Rocklers box-joint jig can cut joints measuring 1/4-, 3/8 and 1/2-inch. All three index keys are included with the tool, but the router bits are sold separately ($16-$23).

Despite the economic downturn, Rockler seems to going full-steam ahead with a collection of new products making their debut at this years AWFS Fair. The tapering jig ($70) has built in clamps, measuring scales, and taper index marks spaced in 1-degree increments. The surface is covered with three strips of grip tape to prevent the stock from moving as it's fed into the blade.

Many of the jig's features will be recognizeable to regular readers of Fine Woodworking's Method of Work department where similar jigs have appeared, but Rockler seems to have done a nice job of putting it all together for those folks who would rather buy a jig than build one.

The Box Joint Jig ($80) mounts to a router table with clamps that fit inside a standard 3/4-inch miter slot. A pre-drilled sliding sled on top of the jig holds a sacrificial fence so the stock can be pushed into a spiral up-cutting bit. The jig comes with three aluminum indexing pins for 1/4-, 3/8, and 1/2-inch joints. Spiral up-cut bits are sold separately and range in price from $16 to $23.
