2009 belt sander racing season wraps up with championship at AWFS

Scott Rhodes, who owns a cabinet and millwork company in Egg Harbor, NJ has the coolest belt sander I've ever seen--although I wouldn't let it near any of my furniture projects. His rig, dubbed the Valkryie, reached speeds approaching 18 MPH at yesterday's National Belt Sander Racing Association World Championship.
Scott didn't win the race, but he did take home a trophy for "Judge's Favorite". Scott did all of his sander's custom machine-work himself and even brought a recording of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries to play during the race. After a little editing back in the Taunton offices in Newtown, CT, we hope to have video footage of the race and Scott explaining his awesome sander.

I was scoping out some of the latest belt sander videos on YouTube and saw a clip of Mr. Rhode's race... There was Asa (guy with the black shirt, camera, and headset) front and center filming.
