Makita shows off new 10-inch slider at AWFS Fair

With a crosscut capacity of 12 inches at 90 degrees and 8 1/2 inches at 45 degrees, furniture makers looking for a new miter saw will want to take a look at Makita's LS1016L which has the capacity of a 12-inch model in a noticeably smaller package. Notable features include two-piece fences on both sides of the blade and a slide mechanism with four slide tubes instead of one or two. The maker claims the extra tubes provide greater long-term accuracy than competitive models and allow the tool to be placed closer to walls and obstructions when less crosscut capacity is required.
Cabinet installers will appreciate the 6 5/8 nested crown cutting capacity. The saw can also miter boards up to 4 3/4 inches tall against the fence. In general, it seems like a really nice tool. The only downside is might be the $550 price tag which is similar to 12-inch models. However, the maker is quick to point out that 10-inch blades have less runout and sell for about 20% less than 12-inch blades.
