Walnut Desk

I completed this walnut desk while in my last semester at college. The inlay on top is walnut, holly and bubinga and the drawer fronts are veneered in bubinga and holly stringing. The finish is tung oil, and then built lacquer over shellac, hand rubbed to high gloss on the top and drawers, and satin on the sides. I used spalted maple for the interior casework and for the drawer parts, the joints of which are through dovetails all around. The top is solid walnut harvested from the backyard of one of my professors. Overall dimensions are 54 inches long, 31 inches high and 24 inches deep.
