Bent lamination bookcase completed for an independent study while in college.  A very fun piece to build.

The design of the piece was inspired by the idea of wood being a living, dynamic thing that we often try (with limited success) to force into a more structured and square existence. I was playing with the idea of wood movement, and really wanted to show the dichotomy of a more structured, functional piece, while at the same time expressing the movement of wood. The bookcase is constructed of Hard Maple, with the top and right side consisting of 6 individual bent laminations, re-sawed and laid up on forms in a vacuum bag.

I would certainly expect that you received high marks for the design, workmanship, and functionality of this piece.

Well done.
