This entry coat closet was designed for my clients that love modern art and sculpture.
It is 9h x 4 6w.
The doors are 8h.
The design plays off of the mirror on the wall. From the side it appears as a vessel or vase.
The design was influenced by the woven metal art sculpture that hangs on the opposite wall of the foyer.
The doors have an asymmetrical design. That is the left door is 40 wide and the right door is 14 wide.
This works out well because the entry is to the right of the closet and the smaller door leaves more room for people and movement into the foyer.
Only the left door is open in this image.
Both doors are open in this image to reveal the layout of the storage.
The cabinet is made of black lacquered plywood and poplar that has a clear topcoat.
The floor is bamboo T&G flooring.
This is a detail shot of the copper handles and veneer.
The handles are made of solid copper rods that were 10 long. I made a bending jig in the shop and bent them myself.
The copper is coated with an exterior acrylic that is rated for use on such metals. It is basically an automotive style clear coating.

This modern closet was designed for the entry of a house that my brother and I built.

The overall dimension is 9'h x 4' 6"w. The doors are 8' high and are asymmetrical. The door on the right is 14" wide and the big door on the left is 40" wide. The brushed copper detail acts as the handle.

The doors are hollow core and have 4 giant SOSS-type hinges that are fully adjustable. I used bamboo and a man made veneer that resembles maple pommelle.

I used red dye on the maple veneer and red and black dye on the bamboo veneer. The finish is a pre-cat lacquer

The clients are modern art lovers and the design was a collaborative effort with them. It was inspired a bit by the woven metal sculpture that hangs on the other side of the foyer.
