Wee Lassie Canoe
comments (2) May 23rd, 2009 in Reader's Gallery
This strip canoe was built using plans from Mac Macarthy, who drew them based on a Rushton design. The strips have various sources: pine from an old water bed frame, pine from recycled shelving, mahogany found at the roadside, and cedar strips left over from another canoe. The thwart is white oak from a pallet. The decks are red oak that was destined to be firewood. The seat frame is made from a recycled water bed frame, and the seat slats are leftover wainscoting. The gunwales are leftover pieces from two different canoe projects. Absolutely no wood was purchased to create this canoe.
