woodguydan woodguydan writes: Oh, I likely should mention that the walnut portion of the base was a huge slabe cut from the base of the tree where it was coming up from the ground formimg a giant Y. I cut it in half and fliped them side to side, there are two walnut cleats about 4" wide that are dovetailed into each side with widened slotes to srew the top in place, allowing for movement. The figured maple foot rest is mortised 3/4 of the thickness of the walnut slabes(2.25"),and all the joinery was done by hand. The desk was sprayed with 6 coats of Varethane professinal urethane(semi gloss).Lastly the top is 7' long and 28" at its widest point.
