The name Quaker Table comes from the unique properties of this table to detect an earthquake, after the fact, unfortunately. Any movement causes the balls -- in the center tray or on the corners -- to wiggle.

The top came from a tree harvested locally in a friend's yard. The ball bearings are recycled from a large electric motor. The bearings in the center tray are free to roll back and forth. Bearings at the end of the tray and on the frame are simply held in place with rare earth magnets.

The tubular steel frame was mig welded, then ground smooth, and textured with a an abrasive disc using a die grinder.
