Oak Floor Chair
comments (2) April 29th, 2009 in Reader's Gallery
The Oak Floor Chair was made from reclaimed oak flooring. The flooring was re-sawn into 2.5" wide by 1/8" thick strips which were laminated with the original finish on the front and back of the stack to preserve the original flooring finish. The strips were joined side by side using Festool Dominoes. The steel was reclaimed from Katrina flood waters. The chair is made from 98% reclaimed materials. Only the all-thread rod and screws are new. The chair was designed and built by Seth Welty, Emilie Taylor and Joe Doherty in New Orleans.

People who have seen the chair have really been drawn to the patina of the flooring and most have found it very comfortable.
