I was inspired by an article in a 1987 FWW to build this plane. It is a reproduction of a type used by 19th century artisans. The body is made from Purpleheart and I ground the blade from a 3/4" spade bit. It seems to hold an edge reasonably well. The hardest part of construction was cutting the 1/4" mortise for the tang of the blade. Making the plane was soulfood and it is a joy to use.
