Reclaimed Fir and Ipe bookcase
comments (1) April 23rd, 2009 in Reader's Gallery
This piece is built from 80 year old doug fir framing lumber that I removed as part of a small dormer addition for some clients. The panels and shelves are from 50 year old doug fir 1" x 12" shelves from a garage. I also had kept the cutout from the stove and sink of some Ipe countertops that I had built for another project, hoping to use them someday.
I had built the bookcase for myself, but during an entry remodel for some great folks the need for a small piece of furniture came up and I thought that this piece might be it. I brought it over unbeknownst to them and put it in the hallway to see how it would work. When I was working in another room I heard the clients come home and then just heard her shrieks of delight from the other room. I was pretty happy that it had found its rightful home.
