While stationed in Japan with the Navy I noticed a Hinoki (False Cyrpess) tree stump on the base golf course.  I approached the Course Manager and asked if I could remove the stump and he agreed.  I used a chainsaw to cut the stump down and them to split it in quartes.  I used a tablesaw to further mill the wood.  I picked up cast off, cut offs, of Sugi (Japanese Cedar) from a remodel job at the base chapel and then designed and built the cradle you see.  The frame, rails and stiles are made from Hinoki and the panels from Sugi.   After having finished all the parts I packed it up in panels and brought it to the US as luggage and assembled it for my daughter who had just had her first child.
