Made out of sapele and cocobolo this gate has wedged through mortises for each rail on the top and bottom. I grafted it to the existing staircase.

I used cocobolo for the door stop and to accent the front...which to be honest was a router roundover bit gone a little too wild on the sapele threshhold...so I cut it off and added the cocobolo accent to fix my mistake. I used a flush bolt on the top. To be certain the sturdiness of this gate has been tested!

I wanted to turn the rails to look like the existing ones in the house but the wife immediately asked if that would make the project take any longer.....yadda yadda...simple, fairly quick and effective. In any case I am happy with the result...finished with Tried and True linseed oil and nontoxic wax.
