white oak kitchen table
Hello Fine Woodworking Magazine,
I am an amateur woodworker from the Netherlands, a long-time subscriber of your magazine and enjoy reading your articles.
Last week I received your E-letter issued the 29th of august, containing an article/series of making a pedestal table.
Just this summer I completed a similar construction in my tiny workshop.
I saw your invitation to readers to post their work, and decided to send my contribution.
Hope this may be of interest.
My construction is also a pedestal table, designed to be used as a kitchen table.
I could not find a suitable drawing, so I made a design myself.
The material used is light European Oak, (from the woods around my hometown in the Netherlands actually).
Tabletop: 75 x 100 cm, composed of precisely prepared oak boards thick 32 mm. glued together with help of Dominos.
The octagonal pedestal, diam. +/- 12 x 15 cm., is also composed of 2 oak elements, height 72 cm.
To emphasize the smoothness of the design I placed the table supports and feet, and thus also the cross-section of the pedestal in line with the diagonals of the tabletop.
OSMO top-oil and a hardener was used to finish the construction.

Great design. Beautiful wood. Excellent table.
I agree completely with your decision to align the legs with the diagonals of the rectangular top. A perfect touch.
Well done!
I've been using free oak wood from pallets to make some really cool projects and selling them for some extra income. I've got thousands of woodworking plans to build. Here's where I got all my wordworking plans http://tinyurl.com/ntgfwjb
