Breakdown Cradle in Maple
comments (2) October 26th, 2008 in The GalleryThis was my first non-kit woodworking project I made for my wife's best friend back in 2004. She lived in a fairly small apartment at the time and I knew space was an issue. I modified the spacing of the rails, used mortises instead of the cheesy Wood Magazine slot spacer idea and used solid wood for everything, but beyond that this was straight from the magazine plan. It was a challenge as that baby was going to pop out fairly soon and I worked almost every evening I could on this project. I load tested the cradle with my dog who was not pleased with her assignment as you can see in the picture. I used shellac and wax for the finish.
My wife's friend coveted that cradle for a long time before letting other relatives in her family use it. I always like making projects that are aesthically pleasing, but also very useful and practical.
