The original
Chest in place. Lamp was designed by Emily McLennan, a dear departed friend. Turned from a foot thick piece of custom plywood.
Back two-thirds of side cornises slide on dovetail keys for seasonal movement.

This began with John Kassay's great "The Book of Shaker Furniture" and the need for something to fit next to a sofa. Second photo is from the book. I modified proportions to fit the space and added design elements to exercise my skills. For something like this, joining the top and sides with dovetails seems a bit much, but I wanted to try it. Side cornises ride on sliding dovetails to accomodate seasonal movement. My first attempt at that, too. All's well that ends well, it's still in one piece.
