Clever joint presses togather as tension is put on ropes.
weakness is the torque on these side joints

I've loved this chair for years. This is a prototype. I maesured pictures and made 1/4" templates. Then I cut parts out of madrone and used the router and templates for final shape. When I got started I realized that there are hundreds of pictures of this chair but only two have people sitting in them. The side legs are at an angle and even though my legs are only 10 inches long there is a huge moment of torque on them. The final version will probably not be in fine woodworking because I'm going to wrap the whole thing in carbon fiber. The black will be great and maybe someone will be able to sit in it. I know. There are other ways to do it with wood but this futuristic design will look great in formal black.
