Showing Veneers in SketchUp

This morning while I was poking around on the internet I came across some photos of an antique round table with a veneered top. The veneer was laid out in an interesting pattern with a star in the middle and band of veneer around the outside with the grain oriented radially. In between, the veneer was oriented with the grain crosswise. I'll admit this isn't the nicest grain pattern for the application but I wanted to make sure the grain would show in the video after You Tube squeezes it down to nothing.

This can be shown in Sketchup pretty easily if you divide the surface into sections. Here's one way to approach it. I use the basic method for showing things like table tops that are made up of planks. You can see that in my blog post, here.
