My first ever woodworking project

I was young and broke and tired of sleeping on a futon. I thought making a bed would be cheap. But of course I wanted cherry... and one piece of lumber went through my windshield when I was loading it. Then there was the mattress, split box spring and bedding.  I plan to sleep in this bed until the day I die, to make sure I get my moneys worth!
It took me one sememster to make and I thought, Wow! This is easy! This is fun! Then I spent the next semester sanding... and sanding... and oiling... and sanding.
A horrendous screeching noise from the jointer alerted us to the bullet buried inside the wood. My mother delights in telling people that I have a bullet in my bed. (Tip: dont put a blanket chest with exposed hinges at the foot of your bed! You can see the deep scatches it left. sigh.)
The sanding was worth it!
My first experience turning too. Squint a little and all 4 of them match!

I walked into an Adult Ed woodworking class with these plans (from Thos Moser). The instructor asked if I had ever done any woodworking. "No" I answered. He gave me an appraising look and said, "Well, it'll be a challenge, but then, so is life." He had lots of time to help me - all the other (reasonable) people in the class were building things like birdhouses. But heck, I didn't need a birdhouse - I needed a bed.
