If the second annual FWW Live wasn't already a must-see, with dozens of classes and events scheduled for Aug. 8-11 in New Haven, CT, it is now. We've filled in the final blank in the packed schedule with a Friday-night build-off open to all conference attendees. Whether you want to join a team or just hang out and watch the action unfold, you are sure to have a great time as show-goers partner up to design and build a piece of furniture using only 2x4s and screws.

Bosch has stepped up to supply these brave woodworkers with jigsaws, cordless drills, and bits. FWW will supply the wood, screws, and sawhorses to work on. Along with bragging rights for the next calendar year, the top three teams will take home some of those very tools and supplies, plus they'll be featured on FineWoodworking.com.

We are not going to reveal exactly what type of furniture the teams will build until showtime, but they'll have less then two hours to design and build it, using only the tools and supplies listed above, and the audience will choose the winners!

This fun night, running from 7 to 9:30 on Friday, Aug. 9, at the SCSU Student Center, is open to all, and refreshments will be served.

Se you at FWW Live 2013!

Understood. Makes sense. One 'last' thought:

I didn't see any detailed 'rules' over at the FWWL website.

Example: Will participants be allowed to bring their own carry-in toolbox of misc. stuff like a Kreg pockethole mini-jig, clamps, hardware, framing nailer (and compressor), etc.? Or not?

Best to spell out all this with rules in advance. OK?

Looks like great fun. Hope to be there and participate!

Keeping the mystery alive!
The main reason is that some people will team up at the show, and we don't want them to be at a disadvantage to those who might team up beforehand and agree on their design in advance.

As to type, may I suggest 'outdoor furniture'?

Plus, announcing the build category in advance will give you more variety and better-thought-out entries. Why not?
