The top of the box was made from plywood with bandsawn padauk veneer to avoid issues with wood movement.
Interior view with necklace locking bar in place.
Interior view with necklace locking bar and tray removed.  I couldnt quite get the color right in the photo.  The Alcantara is a much darker blue than it looks here.

This is a jewelry box of my own design.  Dimensions are 14"W x 8 5/8"D x 7 1/16"H

It has a sliding and removable divided tray, three Brusso brass pegs for hanging necklaces, and a removable mirror.  It is made from Padauk with Ebony and Holly edging on the exterior.  The interior top is lined with figured maple.  The finish is tung oil and platina dewaxed shellac on the exterior and garnet dewaxed shellac on the interior.  The platina was used on the exterior to add as little color as possible to the Holly.  (The tung oil was not used on the holly)  The bottom interior, necklace tray, and removable tray are lined with a smokey blue Alcantara.

The divided tray is made from Padauk with hard maple and cocobolo dividers.  The mirror is made from Padauk and Ebony.

The mirror and necklace locking bar are held in place with rare earth magnets.

I made this for a gift and it has been much the labor of love.  I was attempting to create an elegant design with simple lines.  I put forth a large effort in trying to keep a continuous grain pattern between the top and bottom and around the perimeter of the box.  I have certainly developed my skills working on the many small pieces and through the multitude of joinery methods used.

This is my first posting of work.  Any comments and critiques would be appreciated.
