A jewelry box inspired by a letter writing box from the Greene and Greene Freeman Ford Residence. Built as a Christmas gift for my wife with wisteria inlay. (We were married under the wisteria porte cochere @ the Greene and Greene Duncan Irwin residence. This was incredible gift form the owners of the house.) The materials are purple heart, ebony, snake skin wood, holly, abalone shell and leather. The entire box is made form a single large board which helps to unify the color and grain. The door latch is hand made utilizing (2) ball point pen springs. The leather straps under the box protect both the bottom of the box and the surface it's set on. The handles @ the box ends are bronze plated nickel chrome. I cut the first one from 1/4" T. plate aluminum which was then "sculpted" to it's final shape with files. This was used to make the mold from which the bronze castings were made. My wife's comment when she received this was that it was beautiful. Then she cried, and then she asked what were we going to fill it with?
