Churchill Box

The inspiration for this box came when I saw another furniture maker’s cabinet lying on its back in the shop. I instantly went to work on this box and made it from a single piece of walnut that possessed a very unique discoloration. The top and sides were shaped from flat wood that was planed by hand into a curve (using a round-bottom plane). The box features a lid stay, carved out of solid brass in a shape that reflects a shape in the box. The hand-woven cord serves to tie together the various colors in the wood.
