New mini-lathe features granite bed and headstock

Steel City Tool Works has added a mini-lathe to its growing line of machines that substitute granite for cast iron. The lathe, model No. 60170G, features a 1/2 hp totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) motor with five speeds -- 500 rpm, 1,300 rpm, 2,100 rpm, 2,750 rpm, and 3,600 rpm.
It measures 27 in. between centers -- far more than other lathes in this class. But the extra length also means extra weight. It tips the scale at 161 lb.; so you won’t want to move this machine too often.
Model 60170G also features a 12-in. swing over the bed, and a headstock spindle with 1-in. by 8-tpi threads. Included with the lathe is a 6-in. tool rest, 3-in. faceplate, and No. 2 Morse taper ball-bearing live center.
