The third step in sharpening is honing the edge. Sharpening doctor Gary Rogowski shares tips and tricks for honing the bevel and getting the sharpest cutting edge possible. It's part three of our video series in which Rogowski shows two struggling woodworkers, Aaron Petersen of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Marco Cecala of Phoenix, how to improve their results.
Rogowski recommends the waterstone method, but if you want to sharpen with sandpaper, set up stations for the paper. Glue the sandpaper sheets to glass: coarse, medium, fine, very fine, and polish. Gluing the paper down keeps it flat and prevents it from rolling up around the edge of the blade when honing.
