UPDATE: Book Giveaway: Greene and Greene Furniture: Poems of Wood & Light by David Mathias
Greene and Greene Furniture: Poems of Wood & Light by David Mathias
Popular Woodworking Books, 2010.
$35.00; 175 pp.
Greene and Greene Furniture: Poems of Wood & Light by David Mathias is not a “history” about the Greene brothers, although there is a chapter that provides a brief history. The real gist of the book is that it is a photo tour of the designs of the brothers and focuses on the details. The book is loaded with broad photos of rooms as well as close-up photos of the finer details. Mathias also makes a point to explain the importance of the Hall brothers (the contractors who implemented the Greene and Greene designs) to the success of the Greene brothers. If you like the Arts & Crafts movement and especially the work of Greene and Greene, then you’re bound to really enjoy this book.
Lucky mtrwhlbyr is the winner. His comment was chosen at random. But don’t despair if you didn’t win. Mr. Mathias is offering FineWoodworking.com visitors a discount on autographed copies of the book. For a $4.50 discount (equal to shipping) go to www.wood-and-light.com and use the coupon code: fwcontest. Discount is valid from 12/21/10 through 12/27/10.
Happy Holidays.

I hope the choice is truly random. Being first just seems statistically unpleasant.
I've been a good boy all year long, Santa! Yes please.
I've just started teaching myself some basic Greene and Greene design/fab techniques, but don't have this book. It would really come in handy. Thanks for the chance!
Looks like a beautiful publication. Would love this as I'm also trying to build a few projects in the Greene and Greene style.
Had not seen that one before, and I am starting to think about a sunroom dining table in the style - even the front cover has me interested.
Obviously, I'm not commenting to enter the giveaway... Just want to let those interested know that there's a lot more information about the book on my website. Just follow the link that Betsy included. Good luck to everyone.

Looks like a very interesting book-please enter me in the drawing!
The Green and Green is my choice in styles. It would be a great book to have.
Hey, count me in. I love this stuff.
Count me in. I love G&G design. Would build my whole house in that style if I could afford it!
Oh my gosh, I fell in love with Greene and Greene from articles in Fine Woodworking, can't remember which of two issues. Anyway, I built a G&G style kitchen table and now I'm ATTEMPTING to negotiate my way through chairs with through mortise and tennons to match. I would absolutely love to get this book.
Greene & Greene is a life-long journey...and a great trip it is!
I'd love to get this book. I love building Greene and Greene style furniture.
Wow, Now this is a generous giveaway, and it's autographed...

I always thought of Greene and Greene as my next natural progression in skill building. I've built lots of shaker and arts n crafts stuff. I think some cloud lifts and ebony plugs are in my future and this book would help me along the way!
I am a huge fan of Greene and Greene. This would be a great addition to my small collection. Thank you

As a relative “newbie” after being away from wood for over 35 years – this book would be a great inspirational tool and one I’m looking forward to reading. Such style!
I would love to get this book ... I'm doing the trim in my house in an updated Craftsman style, and love the furniture as well.
This past summer I was lucky enough to visit the Huntington Library, and sketched out some G&G details. But having the book and its photos would help even more.
I have always enjoyed the Greene and Greene style. I would like to add this book to my collection. Please enter me in the drawing.
Please add my name to the list. This sounds like a great book to see G&G furniture in detail.
Having started down the path of replacing all of the wood furniture in my home will Arts&Crafts/G&G/Asian/Stickly style furniture I have designed and made, I would love to add this book to my collection.
I love to do Mortise and Tenon work on a large scale home building...want to focus on smaller projects and this book looks like it has some inspiring ideas.

I have much to learn and I'm sure this book would help.
This looks like a great book
Would certainly love to get this book and then build. Thanks for the opertunity.
I discovered some years ago that my grandparents (and my mother) lived in the G&G house next door to the Gamble house. My grandmother loved those houses (she used to visit the 2 aunts who lived in the Gamble house) and my love of G&G may therefore be hereditary! (though it skipped a generation - my mother hated that 'old stuff')

I would love to get the chance to read this book. Greene and Greene design is facinating.
Would love to browse the book.
I certainly would love to own this beautiful volume. In fact, I would have loved to be involved its creation. Thanks for keeping the G&G spirit alive.
As a recent convert to woodworking and furniture building, I almost immediately gravitated to Green & Green and other Arts and Crafts era designs and techniques, but the library is very limited on this kind of material. This book would make a great impact on my work and skill building. Thanks for the opportunity.
Many Woodworking firms brought The Arts & Crafts Movement to our eyes but none as elegant of the form of The Greene Brothers. Their Dancing Clouds lifted and soften the masculine lines of the Craftsman style, yet kept the beauty of the construction alive. The Finest Woodworkers of the Arts and Crafts Era.
Beautiful furniture designs that are classics and timeless. This will be a great read!
Looks like a great book. I've been a fan of Arts and Crafts (godawful name for a great look) furniture style since I first laid eyes on it decades ago. The brothers Greene and Stickley's Ellis are my favorite designers. I look forward to winning this book. It's one I haven't read and looks like a goodie!
Just discovered Greene and Greene....I'd love to learn more.
I am a Greene and Greene fan. Maybe an addict. I just finished my own version of a G&G dresser for my wife. Would love to have this book for Christmas. More G&G pieces to build!
