Re: Maple Mahogany and Purple Heart bowl

Beautiful work, and nice colour contrast. As the purpleheart darkens over time, the piece will become even more "Roman looking".

Thanks for your comment!

The easiest way is to turn a flat blank (plywood) between centres. Turn a dovetailed foot to hold in a 4 jaw scroll chuck (or you could use a screw chuck or facelplate). When in the chuck, and turning at low speed, mark concentric circles on the front of the wood blank, depending upon what size of pendant / insert you plan to make. Stick the pendant wood onto the blank using double sided tape. Turn the back first, remove the pendent form the blank, reverse, stick back onto the blank with more tape and finish the front.

If this doesn't cover it, let me know and I can provide more details.

Re: Native American Flute

Dear Harmonica,

Thanks for the comment! Much appreciated. The dimensions for this flute were taken from an existing design by Lee Lacroix. If you do not have existing dimensions, you can also drill the sound holes small, cut the flute to length, test the base note as you take incrementally more length off the end of the instrument (increasing the pitch of the note), and then tune each note (bottom to top) by increasing individual finger hole diameters.

It was a great project to work on, and it is very satisfying learning to play on an instrument you have made yourself.

Regards, Jim.
