This is an example of the Pennsylvania Rocking Chair (my name for it) I have been building since 2002. I learned how to build this chair from Hal Taylor of Fredericksburg, VA. I sold this chair at the Philadelphia Furniture and Furnishing show in 2003. You can learn how to build chairs like this too - go to haltaylor.com.
An example of some of the joinery and the floating backbraces. You can see the entire chair construction process at my website, parockers.com.
The amazing figure of this beautiful curly cherry pops under the Deft Danish Oil finish.
A Walnut verson of the chair with Walnut over Ash laminated backbraces.

A unique design employing bent lamination backbraces and rockers, floating backbraces that bend and turn to conform to the sitters shape and a coopered headreat which lets the grain flow in only one direction througout the chair. See the entire chair construction process and more pictures at parockers.com.
